How to Cook Potato Chips in Instant Pot Air Fryer

As of my last update in September 2021, Instant Pot doesn’t offer an official “Instant Pot Air Fryer Lid” that specifically converts Instant Pot into an air fryer. However, they do have an Instant Pot Duo Crisp, which is a multi-cooker that comes with an air frying lid, allowing you to cook dishes with both pressure cooking and air frying functionalities.

If you have the Instant Pot Duo Crisp or a similar model with an air frying feature, here’s how you can cook potato chips:

Ingredients:

To achieve an authentic taste, cook Potato Chips in an Instant Pot Air Fryer with the following ingredients:

  1. Potatoes (russet or your preferred variety)
  2. Cooking oil (preferably vegetable or canola oil)
  3. Salt (to taste)
  4. Optional seasonings: pepper, paprika, garlic powder, etc.

Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Potatoes:

Wash and scrub the potatoes thoroughly. Thinly slice the potatoes using a mandoline slicer or a sharp knife. Aim for uniform slices to ensure even cooking.

Step 2: Rinse and Dry:

Rinse the sliced potatoes under cold water to remove excess starch. Pat them dry thoroughly with a paper towel to ensure crispiness.

Step 3: Season the Potato Chips:

In a large bowl, toss the dry potato slices with a little cooking oil. Add salt and any optional seasonings you desire, and toss to coat the chips evenly.

Step 4: Preheat the Instant Pot with Air Frying Lid:

Place the air frying lid on your Instant Pot Duo Crisp. Turn on the Instant Pot and select the “Air Fry” function. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 5 minutes.

Step 5: Load the Instant Pot Air Fryer Basket:

Place the seasoned potato slices in the Instant Pot air fryer basket in a single layer, ensuring they are not overcrowded. If necessary, cook in batches.

Step 6: Air Fry:

Slide the loaded basket into the Instant Pot and put on the air frying lid. Set the timer for approximately 8-10 minutes, flipping the potato chips halfway through the cooking time to ensure even browning.

Step 7: Check for Doneness:

After the timer is up, check the potato chips. They should be golden brown and crispy.

Step 8: Serve:

Once the potato chips are cooked and crispy, remove them from the Instant Pot and let them cool on a wire rack. As they cool, they will become even crispier.

Step 9: Store and Serve:

Store any leftover chips in an airtight container to maintain their freshness. Serve your homemade potato chips as a delightful snack!

Tips:

  1. Cooking times may vary depending on the thickness of the potato slices and the specific model of your Instant Pot Duo Crisp or similar multi-cooker. Adjust the time as needed to achieve your desired level of crispiness.
  2. Be cautious while using the air frying function, as the air fryer lid can get hot during operation.
  3. If you don’t have a multi-cooker with an air frying feature, you can use a standalone air fryer or a traditional oven to make potato chips.
